Traditional Spanish Children’s Clothes From La Coqueta | A Review

13th June 2022

When my daughter was little I absolutely loved to dress her in beautiful outfits, whether that was a pretty summer dress, bright and fun leggings and t-shirts with little Converse or jelly shoes, or a gorgeous outfit for a special occasion.

Unsurprisingly, I now get very little say in the matter and some of the things I see in a shop and absolutely love, she won’t even think about entertaining! I’m very happy for her to have her own style and likes and dislikes, but it is still hard to let go sometimes and let her choose her own clothes, especially when she wants to wear very short crop tops with leggings or a completely mismatched outfit!

Traditional Spanish Children’s Clothes From La Coqueta

So when we were asked if Ava would like to choose an outfit from La Coqueta, a traditional Spanish children’s clothing brand, however much I loved everything on the website, I wasn’t sure Ava would at her current age (10 going on 15).

I absolutely adore that gorgeous traditional style of clothing for kids. The frills and the collars, smock dresses, embroidery, t-bar shoes and muted tones – oh, I just love it all so much. I think little ones look so adorable in that style of traditional clothing.

My opinionated daughter was firmly against some of the things I loved, but thankfully she did love some of the beautiful clothes too and together (ha!) we picked such a pretty outfit for her.

The brand

La Coqueta is a luxury childrenswear brand and boutique for little ones, from babies to 10-year-olds, all proudly made in Spain. It was created by mother-of-five, Celia Munoz in 2013 with the aim of the brand to support and promote Spanish design and craftsmanship. Every garment’s origin can be traced back to a Spanish family-run business and the skills and methods used are centuries old. The clothing and accessories are handcrafted to create a range where embroidery, applique and sewing feature heavily, but with a modern comfort.

The quality of the clothing is incredible, with gorgeous fabrics and such attention to detail. They are designed to be worn and to last, not just be saved for special occasions, but they are also items to treasure and be passed on to younger children in the family to enjoy.

Much of the clothing is made from natural materials that are durable and hardwearing, so kids can play in them and be comfortable and we don’t have to worry about them being ruined quickly!

The range includes beautiful school shoes, classic trousers, everyday wear, dresses, tops, knitted cardigans and accessories. Everything is so beautifully designed and classic with gorgeous little touches.

The outfit

Ava chose the Pink Agata Skirt and the White Farfa Top which go perfectly together and I love her in them both. The pinafore-style skirt has a pretty white underskirt which makes it even more special and the dusky salmon-pink is a beautiful shade and looks lovely with the crisp white top.

It’s a lovely design that can be worn all year round – in the summer with sandals and a t-shirt or blouse underneath, and in the colder months with thick tights and a long-sleeve top and cardigan. Despite how pretty it is, it is still easy to wear and comfortable and I know Ava will get so much wear out of it over the next few months.

La Coqueta’s Agata skirt comes in four really lovely colours and is made from a soft cotton-linen blend with a 100% cotton lining to be gentle on the skin, and it hangs beautifully on and has such a lovely shape.

The frilly straps can either be worn straight over the shoulders or you can switch them to be crossed over at the back for a change. Each strap also has two buttons so the straps can be shortened or extended with hidden (but still very pretty!) buttons, as well as an elasticated waist at the back, meaning it should fit each age range for a good amount of time, before being passed on.

Unfortunately, as Ava is at the very top end of their sizing, this pinafore skirt isn’t going to last her for ages longer – it’s not far off being tight around her waist, despite the fact that she is super slim, so I’m not sure if La Coqueta’s sizing comes up quite small in some things. Having said that, when the straps are worn straight over her shoulders they are a bit big so slip down on Ava which is a bit frustrating.

The Farfa Girl Top is simple but elegant and will look great with anything, dressing up a more simple skirt or pair of jeans. It is made from crisp 100% cotton that is really soft and high-quality and has such pretty ruffled, romantic sleeves. It fits so well with the pinafore skirt and I think Ava looks amazing in them both.

Ava particularly loves the top and asks to wear it a lot and loves how soft it is, and I love seeing her in this more traditional style of clothing. It’s such a pretty outfit and can be worn for an everyday day out, or for more special occasions too.

La Coqueta’s clothes and accessories are of such high quality and so beautifully designed and the prices reflect that. But I do think that if you can afford to buy these types of items that will last then you should definitely consider it, especially in our current culture of throwaway fashion that is so terrible for our planet.

These types of clothes, made with love and care and quality materials tend to last so well and can be passed on and on through families and I love that. They also make gorgeous and special gifts for children too.

We were sent the skirt and top from La Coqueta but all words and opinions are my own, or Ava’s. See my full disclosure policy here.
