Playmobil City Life Children’s Playground | A Review

10th December 2018

As a parent you get to know children’s toys pretty well; you recognise the brands, you know what the most in-demand present is every Christmas, and you know what your child particularly likes, as well as your least favourite to play with!

However, for some reason, I’d never really come across Playmobil before. I’d heard of it, obviously, but I’d never really seen any of it or played with it and neither had Ava. It was my nephews birthday recently and he got some more Playmobil and it is brilliant! He’d already got a load that he had inherited from his older cousins, and he plays with it all the time, and really wanted the Police Helicopter which he got. Ava and I played with it with him for ages and it was really good fun! I’m not great and playing with kids, unfortunately – I don’t really enjoy it, but I loved playing with this stuff!

Playmobil provides a unique blend of traditional play together with construction covering real-life themes, and we’ve been sent our first ever Playmobil set and I love it! It’s not very often I get that excited about children’s toys, but it’s all so interactive and really inspires creative play, and I really love the level of detail present throughout the sets. The build quality is excellent; it can really take a lot of bashing about even from particularly boisterous kids.

We have the Playmobil City Life Children’s Playground, which includes two slides, a swing, a skateboard ramp, chair carousel, loads of accessories, as well as 9 Playmobil figures. It has so many features and can keep children entertained for ages. I love that it really encourages creative play, and even though I thought that Ava was probably over the intended age it is intended for, she really enjoys playing with it at almost 7 years old, and gives voices to all of the characters as she’s playing. She has now asked for another set for Christmas too.

I do think that different sets in the Playmobil range would be good for different ages in particular too – this one has lots of small parts so is good for slightly older children, whereas the Police Helicopter, for example, is one bigger toy to play with, with only a couple of smaller individual parts.

The playground is pretty easy and relatively quick to put together (I only struggled slightly with the trees as there are a few very similar looking pieces!) which is a huge bonus from a parents perspective and it is very well made so it is likely to last many years – as I said before, my nephew has lots of Playmobil that was played with by his older cousins for years before him. There are so many accessories that come with this set, so there is so much to play and interact with, and I love the tiny details like the birds and squirrels which can be attached to the trees! It’s very cute. One of our favourite parts is the lovely carousel, which has safety bars that move up and down for the characters to get in and out, and spins round just by twisting the top! It’s very realistic which is really nice.

The Children’s Playground retails at Smyths for £39.99, which I think is a very good price for such a good set that will last a long time. You get a lot for your money with the Children’s Playground.

The Playmobil Children’s Playground would make a great Christmas gift for younger children, and provide them (and their parents!) with lots of fun on Christmas day and beyond, without requiring hours wasted building it, or any batteries being forgotten! There is such a good range of Playmobil available, at a wide range of prices, including a smaller playground set which looks cool too.

We’ve played with this set loads since we got it, and Playmobil is definitely something I will look at in the future, both for gifts and for my own children.

This is a collaborative post with Smyths, and we were sent the Playmobil Children’s Playground to review, but all words and opinions are my own. See my full disclosure policy here.
