Most Common Dental Problems and How to Treat Them

8th September 2021

As menial as dental problems may seem, they can turn out to be really troublesome. There are basic ways to take care of your oral health like regular brushing, flossing, and using mouthwash. If all these things are a part of your daily routine, your teeth are likely to remain strong and healthy.

However, even after following these things, you could still end up with some of the most common dental problems. To avoid any major dental health issues, it is advisable to visit the dentist on a regular basis. You can find some good, experienced dentists in Chicago.

Some of these common dental problems, along with their treatment, are given below:

Tooth Decay and Cavities

Cavities in your tooth are the little holes that appear when sticky bacteria, called plaque, build up on your teeth. Plaque destroys the outer layer of your teeth, called enamel. If this thing is left untreated, it will lead to the total loss of the tooth.

The one way to fix tooth decay is to get dental filling done. This way, the hole formed by plaque gets filled up, which saves your enamel from deteriorating. You can also follow a few home remedies like brushing your teeth at least twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, limiting snacks intake, flossing daily, rinsing with a fluoride mouthwash, etc.

In case of a major problem, visit your dentist.

Sensitivity

One of the most common dental problems is sensitivity. Sensitivity is the sudden jerk that your teeth feel every time you eat something very cold or hot. The easiest way to cure sensitivity is to use a desensitizing toothpaste or strip or a fluoride gel.

In case you continue to experience this problem, visit your dentist and make them identify the cause of it. It could be cavities, worn tooth enamel or fillings, gum disease, fractured teeth, or exposed roots. Each of these problems requires a different solution. You might need filling, a root canal, or treatment of your gums to replace the lost tissue.

Gum Problems

Swelling, soreness, bleeding around the gums, tenderness around the gum area are the initial stages of gingivitis (Gum Problems). When plaque builds around the area, it is then that this problem begins.

This problem can increase over time and could lead to loosening of the tooth or total tooth loss. You might need to visit your periodontist in such a case. Using a tartar-control toothpaste will also help keep tartar and plaque away from your gums. You should also continue to take your prescribed medicines if any.

Missing Tooth or Gaps in Teeth

Gum problems, tooth decay, cavities, etc., are some of the major reasons for tooth loss. These might also affect the adjoining teeth.

One of the most effective ways to fix missing teeth or gaps in teeth is to get dental implantation. Dental implants fix fake teeth permanently into your jaw, making them durable, strong and long-lasting.

Apart from getting an implant, it is also a really important factor, from where you are getting it done.  Ensure the dentist has enough experience and expertise in dental implantation. It’s not difficult to find a good dentist here in Chicago, search the web for dental implants chicago, and choose the one best suited for you.

Dental implants look and feel like natural teeth and work exactly the same as natural teeth, with no discomfort in any way. Dental implants replace the original root of the missing tooth and fix a new one.

Conclusion

Dental Problems require careful attention and care. Even the smallest of problems in your teeth should not be ignored and should be treated at once before it leads to a major problem. If you continue to face these problems, the best thing to do is to visit your dentist. You should also try to visit your dentists regularly for routine checkups.

You can get cavities at any age. They’re not just for kids. Ageing and normal erosion of enamel can lead to these. Also, dry mouth could be caused due to disease, age or even medications.
