Inessa Advanced Omega 3 Fish Oil Supplements | A Review

17th December 2019

Having a healthy and balanced diet and lifestyle is obviously very important for us, to maintain our health and wellbeing and to give us the energy we need to live our lifestyles. But, especially in this day and age where there is so much processed food available to us, and our fruit and vegetables have fewer nutrients, it can be difficult for us to get everything we need from our daily diet.

So I’ve always been a fan of taking supplements to improve or maintain my health. Clearly, they are not a substitute for a good diet, but I do think that quality nutritional supplements, alongside a healthy diet can help to top up what might be missing or address deficiencies that many of us have and can really improve our health.

Often though, the quality of supplements is questionable, and many have been shown to do absolutely nothing for us or provide us with vitamins and minerals that come from very low-quality sources and even ones that can be bad for our health.

I have taken Omega 3 for years and years, but it hasn’t always been easy to find good quality ones. There are SO many out there, so it can be really tough to find the decent ones among them. I always try to read as much as I can before I start taking a new supplement — I try to find out what is the best type to take, how much of the important stuff the supplement contains and what other ingredients (often dodgy ones that are bad for our health) are in them. On top of that — especially in the case of fish oils — they are often not sustainably sourced.

Omega 3 fats are a group of unsaturated fats that we need to stay healthy. There are two crucial ones — EPA and DHA — which your body not only needs for it to function, but they also provide some big health benefits. Consuming enough omega 3’s could even help to prevent heart attacks and strokes.

Inessa Advanced Omega 3

I’ve recently been introduced to the Inessa brand of supplements and in particular their Advanced Omega 3 fish oil. I love the story behind how the brand started and their ethos of creating high-quality supplements that aim to improve our health, without us having to take ten different tablets every day. Over the years as I have tried different supplements I have ended up taking so many different ones at times, and even though I would happily deal with that faff if they made a big difference to my health, I would obviously much prefer to only take a couple of great ones that work.

Inessa Advanced Omega 3 is a premium strength fish oil with exceptional purity and freshness and is sustainably sourced, with an optimal daily intake in just one dose a day. The capsules are rather large, but I don’t find them to be a problem at all as they are softgels so I find they slip straight down, but I know some people struggle to take larger ones even then.

As with all supplements, it is hard to quantify any perceived benefits from taking it, but knowing the background behind a supplement or brand can really help when choosing a good quality one that will improve your health.

Quality and Purity

I love that with this one you get a really high dose of 840mg EPA/DHA in just one softgel. Expert recommended intakes for normal function of the heart are at least 500 mg of EPA/DHA per day and at least 1000 mg for people at higher risk, so the majority of us get our optimal amount with just one of these.

EPA (eicosahexaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) are the two most important omega 3 fatty acids, and they are present here in a natural, triglyceride form from sustainably sourced fish oil. Just one of these softgels is equivalent to 3-4 capsules of standard ‘high-street’ fish oil products in potency, making it so much more convenient (and much nicer!) to take.

Inessa’s Omega 3 fish oils also exceed industry standards for quality and purity, which is really reassuring — they undergo a unique, patented purification process that ensures that oxidation products and contaminants (such as heavy metals and environmental chemicals) are significantly lower than the maximum levels set by the GOED Monograph or EU standards for fish oil products.

Sustainability

Something that I’ve worried about before when I’ve taken fish oils is whether they are sustainably sourced, as, despite my health being very important to me, I don’t want to contribute to overfishing or environmentally destructive fishing methods.

Inessa Omega 3 has Friends of The Sea Certification meaning that their fish oil is ethically sourced and environmentally sustainable. It is made from 100% wild anchovies, which produce higher purity fish oils than larger species of fish, and come from sustainably fished and managed fisheries too.

Health Benefits of Fish Oils

Omega 3’s are so important to our health, but most of us, especially in the UK, do not get enough just from our food, therefore, supplements can really help to provide us with enough to maintain or improve our health.

EPA and DHA have lots of important health benefits for the brain and heart, as well as visual effects and child development. They can help protect the heart and blood vessels from disease; they lower triglycerides, improve blood flow, prevent blood clots, lower blood pressure and keep the rhythm of your heart steady. Higher levels of the Omega 3 fats EPA and DHA in the blood have also been linked with a lower risk of dying from cardiovascular disease, and maternal intake of DHA contributes to the normal brain and eye development of the foetus and in breastfed infants.

How amazing is all of that? Getting enough omega 3’s is so important for our health so I’m going to make sure I always take a good quality one from now on.

The Brand

Liza Marogy, the founder of the Inessa Wellness brand, has a really inspiring story as to why she started the company, and how her health has improved from it. Liza was diagnosed with a lifelong autoimmune condition in 2001 and was put on medication which made her hair fall out amongst other side effects, but which didn’t improve her symptoms. She then started researching and self-testing to find a way to fix her health without undergoing surgery. A year later and she was in remission with a combination of diet and supplements. although medical consultants told her that her remission was temporary but now nearly two decades on she hasn’t had to take immunosuppressant drugs since.

After her experience, Liza wanted to create her own products, and so searched out the UK’s leading product developers, laboratories and researchers to work with to create a streamlined range of products that don’t compromise on effectiveness.

There’s no getting around it, these supplements at their standard price are not cheap. But you really do get what you pay for with supplements and if they work to improve your health then they are worth it in my opinion. Also, with this essentials range, you don’t need to take a load of different supplements every day — the price of which does add up. One bottle will last you for two months.

I’m really happy with these Advanced Omega 3 fish oils from Inessa; the quality and purity is great, the company are always looking for ways to improve their formulations, and they really do simplify the confusing world of supplements with just two daily vitamins — a multivitamin and Omega 3. They have nothing bad in them and they are also gluten-free. And I know it doesn’t really matter, but the packaging is very chic too!

Inessa’s Advanced Omega 3 Fish Oil is available online at InessaWellness.com or Amazon.

I was sent some Inessa Advanced Omega 3 capsules to review but all words and opinions are my own. See my full disclosure policy here.
