Creating a Strong Mother and Daughter Bond with Sports

A healthy relationship between a mother and a daughter can be the bedrock of happiness and life satisfaction for both parties. However, fostering such a relationship requires constant work.

Fortunately, human beings are, for the most part, naturally adapted to find this work deeply fulfilling. As you build a connection with your daughter or your mother, you’ll feel a happiness that goes beyond mere fun!

But exactly how do you forge this relationship? With the help of the right activities. Sports are a good choice because sports provide a range of side benefits. By trying out a range of sports, you’ll get your daughter into the habit of exercise, which will set her up for life.

Swimming

Swimming is something that you can introduce children to from a very young age. Getting children used to the water will help them to overcome their fear of it. It’ll provide them with the experience of feeling fear and coping with it more generally. There’s a reason so many figures of speech revolve around water – we ‘take the plunge’ when we’re feeling bold and ‘dip our toe’ when we’re feeling cautious.

Swimming, moreover, can be a lifesaving skill. Even a little bit of practice can make a big difference.

Yoga

When people come to know and love yoga later in life, they’ll tend to regret not taking it seriously early on. This is because yoga is usually sought out as an antidote for postural and flexibility problems.

By introducing your daughter to the practice, you’ll allow her to get comfortable with it, and to build on it every day. It’s great not only for physical reasons but also for mental ones. If you’re looking for a more intense yoga-like experience, then you might opt for Pilates instead.

Tennis

Racquet games are popular because they’re enormously good fun, and they provide a workout for the whole body. You can play doubles with your daughter or test your skills against her in a one-to-one singles match. If tennis isn’t available, then you might try badminton instead – since this is a sport you can play in a smaller space with a less-than-ideal surface, without the risk of breaking any windows.  Best of all, if you take a liking to the sport, you might find that there are a host of tennis beach holidays available.

Cycling

Teaching children to cycle will provide them with a sense of independence. If they want to go and visit a friend on the other side of town, then they’ll be able to do it without asking anyone for a lift. It will also provide them with a chance to learn the rules of the road, which will come in handy when they come to drive an actual car.
