Brighten Your Bathroom in One Weekend

14th December 2023

Do you keep meaning to redecorate your bathroom but never get around to it? Tackling such a big task can be quite overwhelming, and having your bathroom out of bounds for a long period isn’t ideal. So, how can you update your bathroom without an expensive and time-consuming full-scale renovation? Here are some creative and simple ideas that won’t leave you with an empty purse.

A Brand-New Mirror

If your current mirror is looking a little worse for wear or you’d simply like an upgrade, fitting a new one is the perfect way to modernise your bathroom. An impressive mirror is a great new centrepiece for your room, and it’s practical too! Many double up as storage units, meaning you no longer have to keep your toiletries in the shower. Illuminated mirrors also have the advantage of being a great lighting addition to your bathroom, allowing you to be extra precise when flossing your teeth or doing your makeup.

A Lick of Paint

Repainting your bathroom is a great way to freshen it up. Make sure to pick a colour that complements the other tones in your bathroom. If you’re artsy and want to get creative, you could even paint a few individual bathroom tiles. This will really personalise your bathroom and give it an eclectic aesthetic without the effort of redoing the entire room.

Plants

As with almost every room, the addition of an array of greenery is also essential when injecting some life into a bathroom. Do your research first and find plants that will thrive in low lighting and high humidity, as you want the greenest leaves to contrast the sterile porcelain. Go for free-standing or hanging plants for an eye-catching foliage display.

Lighting

Installing grand light fixtures looks great, but this isn’t always realistic, particularly if you’re looking to be cost-effective. Buying an attractive lampshade can be a good alternative, and even using candles is a great way to add ambience. Arranging a few candles in attractive colours will add warmth and interest to your bathroom. Dot around your bath, and they’ll also give you the ideal lighting when you’re enjoying a relaxing soak – just try not to fall asleep.

Accents

There are lots of small extras you can easily add to liven up your bathroom. You could swap your shop-bought soap for refillable and stylish dispensers or chunky bar soap with a decorative dish. Soft furnishings such as a vibrant and patterned bathmat or colourful towels are a great way to give your bathroom a retro and trendy twist. Carefully selected rugs and towels make a space feel more dynamic and homely, completely changing the feel of your bathroom.
