5 Thoughtful Gifts for Recovering Addicts

20th November 2018

Addiction to substances is difficult to deal with, for the persons who are addicted as well as for the ones who know and love them. Many people have to turn to Grand Prairie, TX rehab resources, or rehab resources wherever they are based, to get the help they need. This can be a tough time, however, when they start to get help and recover from the addiction, it turns into a happy moment for everyone.

  1. A custom-made present

It could be a button that says “5 YEARS SOBER!” or a T-shirt that says “I’m a Fighter”, or a coffee mug with “Great Work, (insert name here)!” written on it. Whichever it may be, giving a recovering addict a custom made present with a congratulatory message or supportive note can go a long way in conveying your love and support to them. That kind of encouragement could give them the boost they need to keep up their recovery process and not relapse.

  1.  A book

After the drug rehabilitation process, the environment of the recovering addict can do a lot for the success of the process. In such situations, the right book can be an immense help. It is natural to think that a self-help book would be the best kind of present in this situation. However, any engaging read would be as good of a present as well, especially if the book in question appeals to the interests of the person you’re gifting it to. Giving one of each kind will be a good way of letting them know that not only are you trying to help them help themselves, but you also see them as a person rather than just as a recovering addict.

  1. An experience

The goal of this gift is to give a person a good kind of “rush”, one that comes from good things rather than from things like drugs or alcohol. This will not only remind them that good feelings come from good things, but will give them something to remember for a lifetime. This can include anything from adventure sports like bungee jumping or scuba diving to a non-adventurous or less extreme experience like a candlelit five-star restaurant dinner. Think about the person you’re planning this for and be sure to tailor it to suit their interests as well as yours, so that the quality of the experience increases for both of you if you choose to experience this along with them.

  1. Essential Oils

Aromatherapy through essential oils is a well-known method of relaxation, and this could be exactly what a recovering addict may need. Certain oils have properties that can reduce withdrawal symptoms of various substances, and are quite effective in regulating other things like hormone levels, mood swings and other behaviours that are common in addicts. Gifting them the right essential oils (you will have to do some research) and a manual on how to use them can make a great present.

  1. Yourself

In the long run, more than any material gifts that they can get, the one thing that addicts in recovery will treasure most is the company of the ones they love. Spend valuable time with them, give them love and encouragement, and find different ways to remind them that their mistakes do not make them damaged goods. Addicts don’t exactly have everything they need to keep themselves going and they are going to need your help.

In the end, these presents are only symbolic of the fact that you love and care for them deeply. Find ways to show that love in different ways, and support them when they need you. Addiction recovery is not an easy task, and it requires a lot of determination as well as courage that can only be drawn from their surroundings since it is often difficult for them to draw it from within. These gifts will be a great way to show them how much you care.
