5 Things I’ve Learnt So Far as a Mother, by Ayse // Guest Post

28th August 2019

Today I have a guest post from the lovely Ayse for my ‘5 Things I’ve Learnt So Far as a Mother’ series.

I’ve been a Mum now for 5 whole years. It’s such a cliche but it has gone so quickly, especially the past year adding R to the mix.

So what are the 5 things I’ve learnt so far?

You feel lonely and isolated sometimes.

I’m pretty much never left alone. Having a 5-year-old and 1-year-old wanting constant attention/cuddles/milk I’m always surrounded by someone… That doesn’t mean I don’t feel lonely though. Parenting can be really intense and I really wouldn’t know what I would do without my other mum friends keeping me going.

There’s no such thing as a perfect mum.

We’re all just doing our best and that’s what counts. The love and effort you put in will make so much more of a difference than having the super tidy house or the amazing array of Pinterest worthy crafts.

Laughter is the best medicine.

Life and work get in the way most of the time but it’s so important for you and your kids to just let go and have fun. Be silly and don’t worry about how you look or who’s watching. If you want to have a confident child you need to show them what a confident person looks like. This is a work in progress for me!

Kids are little shits.

Strong-willed and very hard work most of the time but it’s amazing how that can be forgotten about with just a cuddle. Keep your cool and try not to give in to them!

You need eyes everywhere.

Blink and they’re gone. Even if you only have the 1, kids have a magic power which allows them to disappear in less time than it takes you to sneeze. I think everyone should own one of those clocks that Mrs Weasley had in Harry Potter! If you have a toddler and there is silence… it’s not golden!

Ayse blogs over at Coffee & Cwtches and writes about her life in South Wales whilst sharing advice and support from her experiences of being a parent. She is mum to two girls.
