4 Ways Blogging Allows You to Unleash Your Creativity

26th September 2019

I have never thought of myself as a creative person. The idea of doing something crafty with my daughter fills me with dread and a desire to run away as fast as I can. Sewing unleashes a monster in me that is best kept hidden, and I am absolutely terrible at drawing. I did love painting and drawing when I was young, but as I’ve got older I seem to have lost that creativity and just always thought that I wasn’t a creative person and that was that.

I am a blogger and freelance writer – that’s not creative is it? But actually, I have come to realise that I can be quite creative after all. Blogging does involve you being creative and actually allows you to unleash your creativity to the extent you want.

In Your Writing

Writing a blog can be really creative. You are constantly coming up with ideas for blog posts and then creating that content, and then putting that onto social media in a way that you hope will make people want to click the link. You can weave stories into your posts to make them more interesting to read and use words to express how you feel. It can feel so good to just sit with my laptop and just let the words spill out of my brain onto the screen in front of me, and then form that into a blog post that is interesting to read.

You can blog about whatever is important to you and things that you love and really use it as an outlet to express yourself and your creativity.

Designing Your Website Yourself

Doing little bits of design on your blog yourself doesn’t have to be complicated or scary, and it can make you feel so accomplished having designed your own blog header or editing a bit of code to change the way something looks.

I’ve always designed my own blog headers or logos, and even though they may be very simple that is the style that I like anyway so it works! I’m far from a graphic designer, but creating my own blog logo that I love makes me feel so proud. I can spend hours browsing different fonts and finding that perfect one for me, and then trying different designs out using Picmonkey. You can choose a beautiful free font download and then get creative trying out different designs, with glyphs, art or photos and get it looking exactly how you want it, without having to pay someone to do it for you! Plus, by doing it yourself, your blog design will be unique to you rather than having a header that is almost a carbon copy of one particular designer’s work that you see everywhere.

Your blog design can show your readers more of who you are as well as attract those who are similar to you. And choosing a font you love and designing your header yourself gives a great sense of pride every time you see it or someone compliments you on it!

Taking Photographs

Photos are such an important part of a blog post, and especially nowadays when there are thousands of other bloggers wanting people’s attention, it is so important to have beautiful photographs breaking up your writing.

You don’t have to have the fanciest camera to get brilliant photos to use on your blog, but it’s good to learn the basics of photography so that you can get creative with your pictures and show another aspect of yourself in your blog posts.

The editing process is also very creative, and you can use your own personal style and preferences to get your photos looking the way you want them, which can also help you to brand yourself and your blog so that people come to know your overall ‘look’.

You Can Build a Business Out of it

A blog can be the starting point for so many businesses that allow you to make money whilst doing something you love. You can sell a product – whether that’s a digital one or a physical product – you can teach others how to blog, work with brands to create sponsored contact or videos that promote a product or service, create content for other companies on websites or on social media.

The whole process of blogging is very creative! If you’re a blogger do you consider your blog to be your creative outlet? What else do you do to unleash your creativity?

This is a collaborative post.
