The 2020 Christmas Gift Guide for Kids: Part 1

7th November 2020

There is so much great stuff in this Christmas Gift Guide for kids – there are things for all different ages, with most of it being suitable for a really wide age range so you can hopefully find something for all of the children in your life.

The 2020 Christmas Gift Guide for Kids

Planet Buddies Pepper the Penguin wireless speaker

How cute is this little fella?! Pepper the Penguin is a wireless speaker for kids that makes a really lovely Christmas present for little ones. The portable speaker allows them to listen to music or audiobooks, with 4 hours playtime and 60-day standby time, so they can even take it out with them to have in the car, or on holidays to enjoy.

Pepper the Penguin connects wirelessly to any Bluetooth 5.0 compatible device, including tablets and smartphones and with any iOS and Android devices so you can set them up to sit and listen to their favourite audiobook or play a relaxing soundtrack as they drift off to sleep, and control it easily yourself with your phone or a tablet.

One of my favourite features is that when Pepper is connected to your smartphone, the wireless speaker allows you to answer and end calls at the touch of a button, while the built-in microphone lets you talk hands-free so they could sit and chat with a parent if they were away or a grandparent over Christmas. Being created for children doesn’t mean that it is lacking in power either; Pepper the Penguin speaker has a full-range sound system with 3w output power, and it can also be connected to other products in the Planet buddies range.

The company, Planet Buddies have a really lovely ethos. They want to educate children about the issues that threaten animals with extinction, such as loss of habitat, global warming, and harmful substances ending up in our oceans so that children can learn and be inspired to help protect all life on our planet.

The product range includes headphones, wireless speakers and tablet cushions, which all represent endangered, vulnerable or threatened species, including ‘Pepper the Penguin’ and ‘Olive the Owl’.

Pepper the Penguin is such a sweet little speaker and I love that Pepper’s story is printed on the packaging to help educate children on the environmental issues that impact endangered penguins, as well as simple, practical tips on what children can do to help protect all life on our planet such as turning off lights when they leave a room. It also comes in 100% recyclable packaging and with no plastic used (as there is with so many kids products and always takes you an hour to unpackage them on Christmas morning!).

Planet Buddies are offering an amazing 30% off when purchasing through their website! You can use the code BUDDIES30 right up until 31st December 2020.

FourFit Mini Kids Healthband

My daughter has been asking for a fitness band for ages now and I think they can be fun for them to use whilst also encouraging them to get moving more. This FOURFIT Mini fitness band is specially designed for kids and tracks steps, activity, sleep and heart rate.

A brilliant feature of the FOURFIT Mini is that you can set reminders to get up and move – so if, like most kids, they spend too long on their tablet, then they can be encouraged to get up and move about regularly and get some fresh air. Active reminders can be set to prompt your child to get up and move with a gentle vibration and symbol of a person rising from a chair, plus parents can set rewards based on completion of activity targets!

The settings can be adjusted for a school day, for weekends or for holiday, and alarms can be set to wake a child up in the morning or to remind them of an event, whilst sleep can be tracked including what time they fell asleep if the fitness band is worn overnight.

The FOURFIT Mini works without GPS, meaning it doesn’t always need to be connected to Bluetooth and all activity data is transferred once it is reconnected to the phone.

The FOURFIT Mini is really nice and slim and comes in some lovely colours. It has a bright OLED screen and features built-in rapid USB charging capability. The strap can be removed and plugged directly into a USB slot and be fully charged in just 25 minutes with one charge lasting around 5 days. I actually have the adults version of the FOURFIT Health Band and I think it’s brilliant.

It is also splash and mud-proof and the two pin-like studs clip on the band so it is secure at all times, so won’t get lost easily whilst kids are playing and having fun!

Purobasic headphones

The PuroBasic kid’s headphones are brilliant and so comfortable to wear. They have great sound thanks to their advanced sound-optimizing Puro Balanced Response Curve, but are volume-limited to 85dB (recommended by Hearing Health Foundation, OSHA and World Health Organization as the safe listening level) so they can’t blast sound out without you realising and so their precious ears are protected. Puro Balanced Response Curve is designed to optimize sound quality at lower volume levels so you hear everything music has to offer.

PuroBasic headphones come in either blue, green, red and this gorgeous bright pink, and have a soft vegan leather cover over the ear cups and headband and a durable, flexible and lightweight plastic frame which adjusts to fit so they stay comfortable for kids. They fit a brilliant range of sizes though as despite the fact I have a rather large head they actually fit me too, and they are SO comfortable so I may actually steal them for myself. But this also means that they should last kids for many years.

Any audio device with a standard 3.5mm audio connection is compatible with the PuroBasics and they also have a microphone for phone calls and gaming, which is a great addition. They’re great to look at and brilliant quality too.

I currently have a giveaway to win a pair of PuroBasic Headphones! Go here to enter: PuroBasic Giveaway

Harumika

Another brilliant gift for creative kids, Harumika are a range of fashion design kits which include mannequin torsos, fabric and accessories to design and create different looks. They are all safe and easy to use, with no sewing, scissors or glue needed and can all be reused to create endless designs!

I know my daughter will love this – she is often found designing and making clothes for her dolls and toys so this is perfect for her to step it up a level!

There are a range of different designs, with both single and double torso sets, including Cosmic Kawaii, Soft Brit, a Bridal collection, and lots more. All of the Harumika allow kids to get imaginative and have fun experimenting with layering, folding and twisting to create unique styles.

Suitable from age 6 and up.

Treedom tree

This sweet and sustainable gift would be suitable for adults too, but I think it’s a lovely way to introduce the discussion of sustainability and taking care of our planet with children by gifting them their own tree to plant virtually, whilst directly involving local farmers around the world.

Treedom are a tree-planting business that plants trees in 17 different countries across the world, in partnership with smallholder farmers and NGOs (non-profit organisations that operate independently of government). Your tree is physically planted by a farmer on his land, and then will be photographed and geolocated, and have its online page, where you can follow the story of the project it will be part of and see updates as it grows!

Treedom trees are planted in agroforestry projects that promote virtuous interaction among different species and sustainable use of resources and land. The rural communities involved receive training and financial support and they are the ones who take care of the trees and enjoy their fruits, ensuring food sovereignty and income opportunities. Then there are the benefits of trees to our planet – they absorb CO2, emit oxygen, promote biodiversity, counteract soil erosion and more.

A Treedom tree makes a lovely ethical and green Christmas gift for children which they can then follow along on its journey as it grows. It’s lovely to encourage chats about our world and get them engaged with learning about where their tree is growing and how it is helping the community where it has been planted.

Playinchoc ToyChoc Box Allergen-free Gift Set

These little chocolate box gift sets make a sweet little addition to a Christmas stocking and have the bonus of being dairy-free, soy-free, nut-free, and gluten-free so should be suitable for most little ones.

The PLAYinCHOC set has 6 festive ToyChoc boxes, and each box contains 2 mini allergen-free chocolates, a festive puzzle to build and a fun facts card.

The organic single-origin Peruvian chocolate is sustainably and ethically sourced and contains half the sugar of other leading chocolate products too, with the entire brand being plastic-free, ethical and sustainable.

I’m going to be popping these cute boxes into my gifts for all of the kiddos in my life as a little tasty treat with a fun toy to build.

Shake ‘n Shimmer

Shake ‘n Shimmer lets you design and make your own sparkly charm bracelet with over 60 charms to collect. Most kids seem to love anything that is collectable, so this set that contains 5 mystery charms will go down well I’m sure. The mess-free contents include the mystery charms, a 10-piece bracelet, 3 x mystery glitters, and 7 x dazzle gems.

To make the bracelet you simply open the lid and load the glitters, choose your charm, apply glue, pop it back in the tub, and give it a shake! Then you can add pretty gems to add extra sparkle and the bracelet is ready to wear! It’s a fun little stocking filler and I know this is right up my 8-year-olds street.

Fantasticats Cat-apult

A fun addition to a stocking for kids, this Fantasticats Cat-apult game includes 1 super-cool slinger and 2 squidgy Fantasticats so you can launch them as far as you can and watch them zoom through the air doing stunts as they go!
