The 2020 Christmas Gift Guide for the Home & Pets

11th November 2020

Next up is my gift guide for the home and for pets! I think things for the home make such lovely gifts – they can be beautiful as well as practical and can be quite personal and thoughtful too. I hope you will find some great inspiration for a lovely Christmas gift here.

Lottie Lane Hares Cushion

This gorgeous bunny cushion is from small business Lottie Lane – who make a range of really lovely textile and homeware gifts – and is printed and made in Britain. The pretty hares design is on both sides of the cushion and is this lovely pale pink colour.

It is made with organic fabric and printed using water-based inks, which have minimal impact on the environment and you can really feel and see the high-quality. All of Charlotte’s designs are hand-drawn with minimal use of technology to ensure a real focus on original and authentic design, and all of them are sourced and created in the U.K.

I love the whole ethos of the brand, which is based in Leicestershire. Lottie Lane aims to inspire others and to positively change lives, including in the midterm, through employing people who may have been marginalised in society but have a significant amount to offer in the creative industries.

Plus, all packaging is made from either re-used or recycled cardboard and always using biodegradable alternatives to plastic packaging.

Charlotte makes so many beautiful products that make perfect gifts (have a look at the gorgeous gift boxes), with fun and brightly-coloured designs, as well as offering bespoke options giving purchases an even more personal and unique touch. I think I could find lovely presents for so many people and there is so much I would love myself from Lottie Lane.

Where to buy: Lottie Lane £34

Sloth Washbag

This lovely washbag also from Lottie Lane has a waterproof lining and is a really nice big size so you can fit lots in. I love this fun Sloth design, but it also comes in other bright designs like dinosaurs and giraffes, all printed using water-based inks having minimal impact on the environment.

It can also be personalised and it makes a lovely Christmas present for an adult or child.

Where to buy: Lottie Lane £13.50 or personalised £15.00

Limited Edition Fine Art Prints

These beautiful fine art prints from Pulse Gallery are brilliant and would make such a cool gift. They feature limited edition Disney, Harry Potter, and Star Wars themed artwork, created by top artists around the world!

They’re so fun, but also quite grown-up I think and I would be very happy to have them hanging up in my house. They would really brighten up a room, whether that’s a kids bedroom or any other living space.

They are all one-off artist interpretations of iconic scenes and moments from classic shows and are the only works in Europe officially licensed by the brands. They are also rare collector’s items and they make great investment pieces too as they rocket in value over time.

The editions of these prints are limited in number and they all have an unique number so you are the only one in the world with that number in that edition, which is very cool! Everything produced by Pulse Gallery also comes with a certificate of authenticity.

They also have some really cool and rare collectable fine art pins that have just been released, including a Disney Villain series and a Toy Story series which coincides with its 25th anniversary!

All prints are officially licensed by Disney and are sold individually by http://pulse.gallery.

Where to buy: Pulse Gallery RRP £50

Nixplay Smart Wi-Fi Photo Frame

I’m sure most of us take tons of photos constantly and then just leave them sitting there on our phones or camera. The Nixplay photo frames are a brilliant way to actually display and enjoy them without spending hours and hours and a lot of money printing and organising them all!

Nixplay is an electronic photo frame that displays your photos automatically on the screen within the frame.

A Nixplay photo frame makes a great gift, especially right now when so many of us are separated by distance, as you can share images and videos to your loved ones within a private, safe family sharing network. It can also connect to Google Photos, Facebook and other platforms where you share pictures so that it can update automatically and you always have new photos to look at.

This Nixplay photo frame can be wall-mounted and the 9.7-inch wifi option has a 2K display (the highest screen resolution available) which auto-adjusts to portrait or landscape placement so your photos look clear, bright and beautiful. It also has a clever motion sensor that turns the frame on and off automatically as someone enters or leaves a room! It can even be set up to work with Alexa and other smart homes devices so you can request a specific photo playlist to show.

It is all easily controlled via the Nixplay app and you can send photos to it via email too, and it comes in a choice of sizes and finish, including this lovely silver frame.

It would make such a thoughtful gift for grandparents from a few of you together maybe, this Christmas in particular, so they can feel closer to their family, and you could all add pictures to it so they get to see the kids and everyone and hopefully make them feel closer to you as well as enjoying memories you’ve all shared together.

Where to buy: Nixplay or Amazon RRP £269.99

The duck egg colour and floral pattern is delicate and pretty, and it has a contrasting plain reverse so it can be used both ways.

Seaside Village Folk Art Jigsaw Puzzle

I love a good jigsaw, and this year, in particular, they have become so popular again. I love them for getting off technology and switching off whilst keeping our brains nice and active.

This fun seaside-themed jigsaw puzzle is from Puzzle Crazy, and was originally painted by an artist, and £5 from every puzzle goes directly to the original artist.

It comes in a variety of sizes, which I think is great, including this 500 piece one. All of their jigsaws are available in 6 different piece-counts including a 120-piece one which is great for those with limited vision, for the elderly as well as for therapy use.

Puzzle Crazy have loads of great-quality fun, colourful and pretty jigsaws and they make great gifts for any puzzle lovers. The artist puzzles, in particular, are so lovely and presented beautifully in a box and they are all made and printed in the UK.

Where to buy: Puzzle Crazy £36.50 for 500 piece

Gruffalo Family Planner

The Gruffalo Family Planner makes a great gift to help keep the family organised and important dates remembered. The planner has 5 columns, giving a space for each family member as well as a drop-down pocket to keep papers in. It also includes loads of useful stickers for activities and events.

The Gruffalo design is lovely, bright and fun with the well-known story theme, and the calendar spans half of 2020 and all of 2021 so they can start using it straight away!

Blue Planet II book

This is a gorgeous and informative new hardback book from Puffin – written by Leisa Stewart-Sharpe and illustrated by Emily Dove – that makes a lovely gift this Christmas.

With beautiful illustrations and a foreword from the wonderful Sir David Attenborough, BLUE PLANET II is full of the incredible stories first shown in the BBC Blue Planet II TV series, exploring the diverse and incredible wilderness beneath the waves.

It shares so much about our planet as well as how the effects of climate change are altering our Blue Planet more than ever before, as well as celebrating some of the conservationist heroes who are dedicated to safeguarding our seas. Sharing how all of us, of any age, can help look after it, the book makes a particularly great present for children, with exciting facts and surprises that they will love.

Did you know that 71% of the Earth is covered by ocean? Or that the Atolla jellyfish has a built-in burglar alarm which flashes lights when under attack?  Or even that there is a kelp dwelling Weedy Sea Dragon who is a master of disguise?

I find our oceans so fascinating and my daughter does too, so I know she will love receiving this beautiful book from Father Christmas.

Where to buy: Amazon RRP £14.99 (Currently £10.99)

Dairy Diary

This is so nostalgic for me and I love it so much – does anyone else remember their mums always having that years Dairy Diary when they were young? I remember her cutting out and keeping the recipes in a photo album she used as a cookbook for all of her favourites!

I had no idea it still existed, but it does, and next years diary is so pretty, with two British Butterflies and gorgeous photography on the cover.

Each week you get a new tasty recipe, including the delicious-sounding Pineapple with Hot Passion Rum Sauce and Fire-Cooked Vegetables, all of which been triple-tested, as well as all sorts of interesting information on gardening, food, travel and more.

The Dairy Diary is, of course, a really useful organiser too with plenty of space to write on each day, as well as a notes pocket, dates stickers, reminders, addresses and even gift lists.

Milkmen and women have sold the famous Dairy Diary for 39 years now alongside the doorstep milk delivery service, which is now being used much more again as it is eco-friendly and convenient.

It’s a lovely, sweet gift that is both practical and pretty and I can’t wait to use mine next year.

Where to buy: Dairy Diary and Amazon RRP £8.85

The Christmas Spectacular from Lily’s Kitchen

Lily’s Kitchen have created these fun advent calendars and tasty meals and treats for our cats and dogs this Christmas! I’m more excited about these for my cat and dog than I am about my own chocolate one this year (yes, I still have an advent calendar!).

Lily’s Kitchen are an award-winning British producer of high-quality pet food and this year they have brought back their Christmas treats for our lovely dogs and cats, that include the advent calendars, Christmas dinners, and other lovely (well, for them!) treats and snacks.

I always buy my cat a little Christmas present and I know Ava will be wanting to treat our puppy this year too (in fact, she’s already crafted some little toys for them by herself!) and I know my cat and dog will really enjoy these. I can even imagine that they will both come to recognise a treat coming from the advent calendar each day and getting excited and my daughter is so excited about giving them to them too!

The range of Christmas recipes is made with natural ingredients and designed to make sure pets have all the good stuff they need to have lots of energy, including fresh meat, vegetables and herbs. The treats are also oven-baked and low in fat to give your pet a well-rounded meal.

Where to buy: Lily’s Kitchen, Amazon, independent pet shops and selected supermarkets. Christmas Spectacular Advent Calendars, RRP £10, food from £1.10 and treats from £2.75

Sniffe & Likkit

Not only do Sniffe & Likkit have a great name for their brand, but these brilliant dog products have such beautiful packaging too!

The British brand has just launched a new range of practical, natural and vegan-friendly dog-pampering products. The lovely range of shampoos, fragrances, balms and wipes are based on an all-natural aromatherapy oil scent and offer a gentler approach to dog grooming, with all of them being specially formulated to be pH-balanced for dogs’ skin. They also have no SLES, SLS, parabens, phylates or silicones.

They’re a lovely bit of luxury for our pampered pets and the formulas are multi-tasking and give great results on our often stinky pooches! It’s not great for our pups to be properly washed all the time, so this range is brilliant for keeping them looking (and smelling) clean and fresh in between, with the No Rinse Charming ‘dry shampoo’ (maybe I’ll try it on my own hair!) and the really handy cleansing wipes for when you’re out and about and your dog gets filthy (and they’re 100% biodegradable).

Sniffe & Likkit use the best quality therapeutic-grade essential oils derived from plants grown at high altitudes and cut at selective times. The essential oil blend of cedarwood, petitgrain, juniper berry, vetiver and ho leaf has many aromatherapeutic skincare and well-being benefits and can help to calm and relax dogs – something my dog certainly needs help with at bathtime!

They’re gorgeous products for our dogs and really lovely for us to use as well, with easy to use tubes and lovely natural scents, and the beautiful silver packaging is recyclable and reusable too.

Where to buy: Ocado, Fetch.com, independent pet shops and Sniffe & Likkit from £7.00

Christmas Dinner or Toy for Rescue Cats and Dogs

A lovely feel-good gift for any animal lover –  you can purchase a Christmas dinner or a toy for a cat or dog in rescue with animal welfare charity, Miracle’s Mission.

Victoria Bryceson’s charity, Miracle’s Mission, is a non-profit animal welfare organisation that works with sick, injured and difficult animals. Her mission is to provide a place of safety for animals in danger, to educate on the need for neutering both pets and strays and to neuter stray dogs and cats to prevent the birth of more dogs and cats onto the streets.

Miracle was a dog who was rescued from the streets of Borneo at one week old, before her tiny eyes were even open. She had several injuries and was very weak, but she made a miraculous recovery and is now strong, happy and healthy living with her adopted brother Ben, and sisters Star and Tess. Victoria is now working towards saving many more stray dogs and other stray animals all around the world, starting in Borneo where Miracle was rescued.

Miracle’s Mission is looking for help to build the UK’s first centre for disabled animals, where they can rehabilitate the most vulnerable, before finding them their forever homes. You can donate to the appeal here.

You can buy someone a Christmas Dinner or a toy for a dog or cat, and it comes with a certificate to present to them. It’s such a sweet extra gift to give to someone caring and it’ll make a big difference to the quality of life of a dog or cat at this time of year too. I’m going to gift one to my daughter because she cares so much about animals and she will love that we have helped one enjoy their Christmas a bit more!

Where to buy: Miracle’s Mission £5

I hope these lovely products helped you find the perfect Christmas gift for your loved one or your special pet!

The products featured in this gift guide were sent to me for inclusion, but all words are my own. See my full disclosure policy here.
